The 'After' book series

So, if you’re anything like me, you love good but suspenseful romance novels. Some years ago I started reading on Wattpad. Today I want to write about one series that I read there in English and then in German as real books in my hands. (You want to know what else I am reading on Wattpad? Well, that’s another story to be told. Maybe later.)

The books I am talking about are the books of the one and only Anna Todd. She also wrote ‘The brightest stars’, but now After’s on the line. Maybe because I like it more. But maybe just because I haven’t read TBS yet. Moving on.

a series, that inspires

The books (which are 7 in total – After, After we collided, After we fell, After ever happy, Before us, Nothing more, Nothing less) are about two main characters, (at least the first five books - number 6 & 7 are about Landon) Theresa Lynn Young and Hardin Allen Scott. Let’s just call them Hardin and Tessa. So, I am not going to spoil you (because I’m not Tom Holland – nearly am, but just nearly) so I’m not going to reveal the whole plot to you. But… okay. I guess some information is just necessary, unless that this blog entry is pretty much useless.

Ok.

The Story of Hessa

Tessa just graduated High School. Her mum is pretty strict and desires Tessa to go the Washington Central University. When Tessa finally gets there, almost everything seems perfect. As I said – almost everything. Tessa loves books and is a Lit business student. Everything in her life – except her father – is tidy and planned out. But then she goes for the first time into her new dorm room and SHOCKER! Her roommate (Steph Jones) has pink dyed hair, tattoos, smokes and has metal group posters all over her side of the tiny room. The completely opposite of Tessa, and stuffed with things she wrinkles her nose and forehead about. But when Tessa’s mom leaves, a friendship is about to start. (If you look at fanpages on Instagram, Twitter, etc, you might notice people claiming Steph a snake. Wondering why? Read the other books of the series and you’ll know.)

Steph is friends with Hardin, and when he appears for the first time in Tessa’s room (on her first day!) to pick up Steph, he ignores her until their gazes meet each other. Woooh, suspense…. Yup. That’s all you get. At first you’ll see Hardin as a cruel, ignorant, arrogant person. And when you happen to read the end of After there’s tears in your eyes and the ultimate question: “WHY??” Just keep on reading, and if you haven’t before, you’ll understand Hardin at least when you read Before us.

Tessa in the movie, impersonated by the beautiful young actress Josephine Langford. Her Hardin is played by the talented Hero Fiennes-Tiffin.

Moving on

That’s it for the insight. Also, the first book is filmed, and to talk about the second one, after we collided, with the words of the new director Roger Kumble: "That's a wrap!' - yeah, it's already done too, but will come out only in April 2020. I LOVE the After series, and I think you should read it too. Come on, give it a try.
